July 2, 2006

Well, our ward doesn't start until 1:00 (figures, in our last ward we were so excited to go at 8:30!) so our Sunday mornings are pretty boring. It consists of me sleeping in (thank you Troy) then Troy taking a nap before church. I thought I write a little bit about what we did yesterday! We watched World Cup Soccer in the morning. We were really rooting for England...it was a good game, too bad for England though. Then we all took a nap (yeah, I know, our family is big on naps!) When we woke up, we took the kids swimming. The water gets warmer by the day. Then we ate dinner, got ready, and went to Walmart. Being from Oregon, where Walmarts are few and far between, it's a real treat. We don't have any money to spend there (payday isn't until Friday) but we did have to return a few things. The kids always enjoy looking in the toy section too. We had been telling the kids about Fireflies here. They have been begging to stay up late enough to go see them, and since we all took a nap, we decided we would do that. We still had a few hours until dark when we left Walmart, so we decided to see if we could find the DC temple. We found the temple! The thing that struck me the most was the size. It seemed enormous. We got to the visitor's center 30 minutes before close, and saw the Christus. The sister missionaries talked to us and pointed out the marks in Christ's hands and feet. They told the kids Jesus did that because he loved them. The rest of the night Kristin kept saying: Jesus Loves Me, excpet when she says love, it sounds like "lub". I got each of the kids a pass along card with a picture of Christ on it for them. Then, we decided to walk the temple grounds. By this time, it was getting dark, and low and behold, the temple grounds are full of fireflies! It was so awesome. Troy had seen them before while visiting his sister Raquel when she lived in Maryland a few years ago, but the kids and I have never seen them. I was amazed at just how bright they flash. Needless to say, the boys LOVED them, and we finally found a bug Kristin likes. They were so excited we had to keep telling them we were at the temple and they needed to be reverent. I, of course, forgot my camera. Well, I didn't really forget it. Who needs a camera for Walmart? We weren't planning on going to the temple. So, fireflies were a huge hit! Now we can use that as bribery for naps so that they can stay up late enough to go find fireflies! Gotta go fix lunch before church...
