Domestic Diva...

...I am not. In Virginia, my friend invited me over and was grinding wheat and making wheat bread. I was in awe. She sent me home with a loaf, and Troy asked me why I didn't do that. I told him cause bread was $1 at the store, but if he enjoyed it so much, HE should try making some. I am a HUGE fan of Rhoades Rolls, Great Harvest, and Kneaders. When it comes to baking - especially bread - I am just not interested. Well, in the spirit of eating healthy, I decided to try making my own wheat bread - with wheat ground from my food storage. I borrowed my friends wheat grinder, and made wheat flour. I made wheat bread, and it was AWFUL! I told my friend, Heidi, and she said to come make it side-by-side so I could learn the textures, etc....So, Tuesday I did just that. It really was simple. From start to finish, it only took 2 hours. Oh, there was no machine involved...no kitchen aid...no mixer...just my hand...and it was EASY! And I tell you, if I can do it, anyone can. This afternoon, I decided to try it on my own. I called Heidi right before, and just had her give me a quick over-view. The bread came out of the oven about 50 minutes ago. I just cut into it, and WAHOO!!! It turned out spectacular! Jake has been begging for it! Anyways, here are my 2 beautiful loaves of HOMEMADE NO MACHINE NEEDED WHOLE WHEAT BREAD:
THANKS HEIDI!

Way to go, Jen! Beautiful bread! I was just thinking about this today...I have no food-making skills/talents or sewing talents. I do have other talents, but not the typical Mormon ones. I was wondering if that was acceptable. Ha! I, too, have gotten a bread class from my way amazing sister, but I've never tried it solo. The interest in that and sewing my own curtains just isn't there. Heaven help me!

You're amazing, Jen! I need to come out and visit and get a bread making lesson...I'm sure Aaron would go for it...he's extremely into me being domestic and doing things like that! I wish I could have a piece. Instead, I'll just have to settle for another piece of halloween candy!!

Now can you teach me. That sounds like it is right up Beau's alley. Hmmm...maybe you should teach him.

I didn't know you could make bread without a bread maker!! Just kidding. Jen, the bread was amazing. It tasted so good in a PB&J sandwich. MMMM. My favorite! I should probably learn too. Maybe you could do a demonstration for the family. Or... me and Allisun. That works too. Thanks for all your help the other day! It was fun talking to you.

Heidi, after you sent those pretzels home with me, Troy wants me to be a pretzel maker...that may be our next project!

Oh those pretzels are very worth the effort. The recipe is on my blog. I need to go back and put labels on my recipe posts so that it's easier to find them : ).
